Become a better musician and guitarist in this course. A 6-week course on developing authentic phrasing, ear training, and musical identity. Students will learn how to approach guitar through their inner voice, using singing as the bridge between imagination and the instrument. Students will break free from mechanical playing and begin to create music that feels natural, expressive, and uniquely their own. This course is ideal for beginner to intermediate guitarists looking to move beyond imitation and start sounding like themselves.

What you'll do

Week 1: The Voice Memo Method

Learn to transcribe yourself.

Week 2: Become a Master Thief

Learn to tastefully steal licks, patterns, voicings and make them your own. Expand on previous week's riff or write a riff by the end of class.

Week 3: Call and Response

Practical ear training development. Focus on tension and resolution. Expand on previous week's riff or write a riff by the end of class.

Week 4: Knowing Your Strengths

Students will discover their own unique musical strengths and I will help them crank the knob from 10 to 11. Expand on previous week's riff or write a riff by the end of class.

Week 5: The Guitarist

A full guitar oriented class on technique, what makes a line, riff, progression "guitar-y". The importance of muscle memory and understanding the weakness of the voice method. Expand on previous week's riff or write a riff by the end of class.

Week 6: Integration

We will recap everything learned throughout the course and apply it on one final guitar riff.

Who you are
You should be able to play basic open and barre chords, know your major, minor and pentatonic.
What to bring
Your favorite electric or acoustic guitar. A way to take notes. Optional: guitar amp for class participation.
